As we know, the virtues of the cold are numerous. Firming, it activates blood microcirculation, lightens the legs, depuffs the eyes and tightens pores. But until now, its properties were mainly exploited in body care, little in facial care. At most in eye contour care (Beauté du Regard Cryo-Booster Cream by Galénic, 15ml, €45). This is going to change!
First with Charlotte Tilbury who imagined two new facial treatments inspired by cryotherapy (Cryo Recovery Eye Serum, 15ml, €45 and Cryo Recovery Mask, unique reusable mask, €59). The face and neck mask to be placed in the freezer 30 minutes before and left to act for 10 minutes is quite spectacular. Thanks to a system of Velcro straps, it can be adjusted and fixed to the back of the head and neck, for effective remodeling. Metallic acupressure beads embossed on different areas of the mask also stimulate the tissues. Soothing and invigorating, it immediately gives a healthy glow, reduces signs of fatigue, swelling, redness, fine lines and dark circles. While the mask owes its effectiveness to the cold and acupressure beads, the serum dedicated to the eye contour combines various “cold” ingredients from Switzerland, such as Iceawake™ (made from an extremophilic bacterium taken from a glacier) or an essence of ice wine (made from grapes that have frozen on the vine), with caffeine and peptides. Equipped with a refreshing applicator, it deflates and smoothes the eyes. Pro make-up artist to the stars, Charlotte has been addicted to cryo since her debut! So, when the skin of her prestigious clients is tired, puffy, sensitive or dull, ice cream has always been one of her secrets. Nothing like it to revive the complexion! “My celebrity clients love the immediate sensation of freshness and energy brought by the contact of ice on the skin”. And so do many women!
This summer, brands are having a blast, from Garancia and its Diabolique Glaçon Crème Soie Cristalline (40g, €37.50), a natural anti-pollution and super moisturizing shield, to Nocibé's Aqua Perfect Moisturizing Snow Mask (50ml ,19,95€), via the Algae Velvet Sorbet Cream from Compagnie de Provence (50ml,26€).
There is also Dior's Hydra Life line (Semi-Matte Hydration Micro-Drop Sorbet Emulsion, 50ml, €64; Refreshing Hydration Cream, 50ml, €64; Frosted Hydration Eye Care, with a refreshing ceramic applicator, 15ml, 50 €; Energizing Sorbet Mist, 100ml, €36.50…).
Caudalie, which had already imagined the Vinosource-Hydra Hydrating Sorbet Cream (40ml, €20.90) with a quick-break texture (a gel-cream that “breaks in water” on contact with the skin), is offering a patch of Intense, lightweight hydration for thirsty skin (Vinosource-Hydra Hydrating Grape Water Jelly, 50ml, €23.50). All these treatments distil delicious and ultra-sensorial hydration. Most contain hyaluronic acid and, for some (Garancia, Dior, Caudalie), prebiotics which protect the skin microbiome as a bonus. Caudalie has just discovered and demonstrated the prebiotic power of its organic Eau de Raisin™. Thanks to the sugars it contains, this vegetable water provides nutrients to the good bacteria in the skin to nourish them and strengthen the skin microbiome. Thus, the skin is visibly healthier, and better able to guard against any imbalances.
We too often forget to moisturize our skin when the mercury rises when we just need to do it with suitable moisturizers (rich in water and low in fat). This is even more true for combination to oily skin, which will benefit from using these “splash treatments” which melt on the skin as soon as they are applied, such as Cold Plunge Pore Remedy Moisturizer in the Balance range by Olehenriksen (50ml,40€, at Sephora), a new slush-textured moisturizer that reduces shine and the appearance of pores. Or Clear Start Cooling Aqua Jelly (59ml,27€), a moisturizing gel that regulates excess sebum and refines skin texture.
We can also mention Boscia's amazing Cryomarin Mermaid of Ice and Fire Peel-Off Mask (80g,35€), an icy fresh mask whose texture creates a fun holographic effect. It combines cryotherapy-inspired ingredients, such as mineral-rich seawater, red algae, sodium hyaluronate, sea kelp… with menthol that gives radiance to dull skin.
