We don't necessarily think about it, but each beauty product we use needs a minimum of time to be properly absorbed by the skin. But by how much exactly? We give you the numbers.
Having a good beauty routine can help you prevent skin aging, achieve glowing skin and avoid common phenomena such as dehydration. You still need to know how to use your products correctly and above all, respect the absorption time of each formula!
Here's everything you need to know about the cosmetics you use every day...
As we told you above, a formula needs to be properly absorbed by the skin. To do this, it will require a minimum of time. This can be counted in seconds or minutes depending on the formula used.
What do you really risk if you layer products too quickly? Obviously, nothing serious, but Kim Nichols, a dermatologist in Connecticut, explains to Allure that the formulas can mix:
Another problem: the loss of efficiency. Because if the cosmetic you use is not properly absorbed by the skin, it will not be able to act correctly and offer all its properties to it. Which is a shame !
Even if the serums have a light formula that is easily absorbed by the skin, they still need a minute to act in the heart of the skin tissues.
And this, whether they are developed to purify the epidermis, bring radiance or fight against the first wrinkles.
The treatments dedicated to responding to specific problems of the epidermis have a record impregnation time. And if the product is of good quality and has a high level of active ingredient, it will be absorbed much more easily by the skin because, as dermatologist Harold Lancer tells Allure: "They have a different and will mix and absorb faster. »
How long are we talking about? Well you will be surprised, but once applied they are immediately absorbed by the epidermis and you can therefore directly move on to the next step of your routine.
Depending on the richness of your moisturizer, it will need from one minute to one and a half minutes to be completely “sucked up” by the pores. When the process is completely finished, your skin does not stick and there is no residue of cream on its surface.
Sunscreen is the last product to be applied. But you may want to work on your complexion right after and add concealer and foundation to your skin! According to Sejal Shah, a board-certified dermatologist in New York interviewed by Allure, "When sunscreen is mixed with other products, it becomes diluted and less effective."
Its ideal exposure time: 1 minute. But it is possible that some sunscreens need 2 to 3 minutes to completely soak into the skin and dry.
We don't know about you, but on our side, we didn't expect so much time between each product. And if it can boost their effectiveness, then why not?
