If we tend to neglect the maintenance of our beauty products, it is nevertheless essential to follow certain rules to preserve our makeup. Well-preserved products remain effective longer, and pose no risk of infection!
Like all beauty products, make-up has an expiry date. To find out how long you can keep your products, look for the open jar symbol on the packaging, and the inscription next to it: 6M for six months, 3M for three months. To be sure not to make a mistake, note the opening date! The second thing to know is that makeup fears humidity and heat. The bathroom is therefore not the ideal room to store your beauty products. Preferably, keep them away from light, in the room where the air is drier and the temperature more stable. Install a dressing table in your bedroom, or store your equipment in the drawer of the bedside table!
The make-up comes into direct contact with the fine skin of the face, and the mucous membranes (eyes and lips). It is therefore important to avoid the proliferation of bacteria, under penalty of causing infections that lead to acne, redness and other imperfections. Pay particular attention to the maintenance of kohl to avoid conjunctivitis, and lipstick, since the mouth is the point of contact between your body and the outside. To avoid any problem, pass a cotton swab soaked in 70° alcohol over the tip of the pencil and the stick. To maintain your brushes, clean them once a week with soap. You can also dip their heads in alcohol, being careful not to wet the handle. Also remember to regularly clean your containers, such as makeup bags. In general, don't leave your makeup lying around in your purse or haphazardly in the bathroom. Be sure to recap the tubes, and close the lid of the foundation. Finally, favor pump bottles, in order to minimize the contact of your fingers with the products.
For ideal storage, keep your most sensitive products in the refrigerator, such as scrubs, masks or varnishes. Forget Grandma's trick of pouring a little olive oil into the tube of mascara, it damages it! Instead, remember to close the tube well, and avoid the brush going back and forth in the tube. For sun creams, change them every year: exposure to heat affects their effectiveness. In general, discard a product when you notice a change in color, texture or smell, and get rid of your brushes when they lose their flexibility.
