"A mask pro shows you how to contaminate yourself in 6 seconds", "the example not to follow", "And there is nothing ????»…
The sequence only lasts a handful of seconds but it arouses strong reactions on social networks, thanks to its numerous covers by various Internet users. And for good reason: we see the Minister of Health, Olivier Véran, removing his mask during a public intervention ... without necessarily respecting the health precautions for use.
"Véran and his mask ... I remove it by the elastics ... well !!!!I stick the virus full of the left hand ... a little on the right hand ... I rot the desk ... and I scratch my nose !!!!And sometimes I haven't done enough bullshit ... I am coming toAnd the guy is ... Minister of Health !!", Comments ironically one of the versions of this video, detailing, idling, each of the minister's gestures.
This authentic video extract, dates from August 27: it is taken from the situation on the COVID-19 held that day by the Prime Minister, Jean Castex, the Minister of National Education, Jean-Michel Blanquer, andOlivier Véran, as can be verified on the Government Periscope account.
Are the gestures of the Minister of Health (visible from 38,24 in the full video), however, contrary to the health recommendations in terms of carrying the mask, as these Internet users claim?
Removing his mask by holding him by the elastics, as Olivier Véran does in this extract, is well in line with the advice provided by the Ministry of Health in the matter.Or rather partially in conformity, since it recommends "washing your hands" before removing the mask "by touching only the laces or the elastics".If the minister had a hydroalcoholic gel at hand before winning the desk (as we can see on the wide level of the video, at 38'25), the images do not allow to check if heUsed beforehand.
After having removed his mask, Olivier Véran, however, clearly contravenes usage precautions since he touches it on the outside side, potentially carrying virus - a practice firmly advised against the Ministry of Health as by WHO, which recalls wellto "do not touch [r] the front of the mask".
Because by then carrying his hand with his nose several times, Olivier Véran takes the risk of contaminating himself, as long as his mask was contaminated after he manipulated it with bare hands (again, assuming that hedid not just wash your hands beforehand).Putting it on an outdoor support also contravenes the health advice in force, which recommend placing it in a plastic bag before throwing it (or washing it, if it is made of fabric).
On the other hand, the viral video omits to show Olivier Véran at the end of his intervention, twenty minutes later (at 58'14 in the complete sequence), when he washes his hands with hydroalcoholic gel after having put back his mask and returnedits place.
A practice in accordance with the recommendations in force (at 1'58 in the video of the regional health agency Grand is below, in particular)-and that the Minister of Health repeats at the same time as Jean-Michel Blanquer at theFrom the situation (at 1'54'10), after Jean Castex launched them: "Wash your hands".
It is in any case not the first time that Olivier Véran has manipulated his mask on both sides after having removed it, since he had notably done it on July 21 and 27, during two separate interventions in the Assemblynational, viewable online.Without being able to check if he followed this gesture of a washing with hydroalcoholic gel.
