Aesthetic medicine: the point by age - Elle

From the age of 30-35… the skin cells are stimulated

Contrary to what one might think, it is possible to have recourse to aesthetic medicine from the age of 30 years. Some women begin to lose volume around the oval of the face, dark circles are more marked and wrinkles between the eyebrows appear. Three techniques are then very effective and discreet:

- Mesotherapy: this consists of administering a mixture with a therapeutic effect into the dermis using small needles. With a "classic" technique of superficial topping, we hydrate and revitalize the skin and the superficial dermis. The mixture is composed of non-crosslinked hyaluronic acid (suitable for finer wrinkles) combined with a cocktail of vitamins and antioxidants. The protocol combines three sessions at 15-day intervals then one every two months.

- Laser or pulsed light: this skin warming will stimulate the collagen naturally present in the skin without going too deep and strengthening the hold of the tissues. It also restores radiance to the skin and improves its tone as well as the appearance of folds and wrinkles.

- Chemical peeling: the "superficial" peeling, which consists mainly of glycolic acid, helps restore radiance and eliminate fine lines. It is similar to the exfoliation that a beautician can perform. It erases the upper layers of the skin, eliminates dead cells and activates the production of collagen. This type of peeling can be performed all year round. SPF 30 sun protection is recommended for several weeks after the peel.

From the age of 40-45… we fight against sagging skin

From the age of 40, the balance of the skin barrier weakens. It is then necessary to further stimulate the cells to produce new collagen but also to reduce wrinkles on the forehead and crow's feet, fill in wrinkles and hollows in the face and finally improve skin texture. Here too, different techniques make it possible to reshape the face without transforming it:

- Fillers: injected under the skin, their purpose is to plump up the tissues. This method is recommended to redefine the contour of the lips and restore their volume and erase nasolabial folds, perioral wrinkles. Injections of collagen, calcium, hydroxylapatite or polylactic acid are generally used. It is advisable to renew the injections every six to twelve months.

- Injections of botulinum toxin: injected into the muscle, the botulinum toxin has the effect of "freezing" it. It is mainly used to treat the upper face (frown lines, horizontal wrinkles on the forehead and crow's feet (outer corner of the eye)). Doctors recommend repeat injections every six months or so as the effect gradually wears off.

- The chemical peel: the “medium” peel is more “aggressive” than the “superficial” one. It heats the skin on application and it will desquamate a few days later to regenerate in depth. Here it is the trichloroacetic acid that will allow skin rejuvenation but also to tighten the pores and awaken the radiance. The protocol combines three to four sessions at 10 or 15 day intervals.

- Mesotherapy: We use a deeper revitalization technique than “classic” mesotherapy. The goal is to plump devitalized skin. The hyaluronic acid used in this technique is pure and non-crosslinked. It improves fine wrinkles and fine lines but does not allow the filling of wrinkles which must be done with cross-linked hyaluronic acid (filling of deep wrinkles). The protocol combines three sessions at 15-day intervals then one every two months.

From 50-55 years old… we erase brown spots and rosacea, reduce wrinkles and brighten the complexion

The fall in hormonal secretions intensifies, as does sagging skin. Brown spots and rosacea may appear. It is then necessary to continue with aesthetic treatments that will revitalize and moisturize the skin and act on sagging skin.

- Fillers: Radiesse®: this is an injectable skin implant that stimulates the production of collagen and redraws the oval of the face. It also restores volume to the cheekbones and fills in marked nasolabial folds, which are not always sufficiently corrected by hyaluronic acid, which is less volumizing. After several months (15 to 18) the particles degrade, it is necessary to inject the Radiesse® again.

- Tensor threads or “lifters”: introduced under the skin, they correct sagging of the face. The notched threads are perfectly tolerated by the body and implanted under local anesthesia. They are reabsorbed under the tissues to create a natural fibrosis which will prevent sagging of the lower face.

- Mechanical peeling or microdermabrasion: this technique involves projecting small crystals using a stylus to deeply cleanse the skin and suck out impurities. It reduces wrinkles and small spots. It is a complementary method to other rejuvenation techniques.

- Lasers: “Yag” or pulsed light can reduce the diameter of small dilated vessels (rosacea) without damaging the epidermis. It takes an average of two to four sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart.
