8 effective products to fight against adult acne

By Alexandra Mayor

Acne is tiring! Especially when you are an adult and believe that your facial misadventures had ended with the end of adolescence. I had problem skin long after I was out of my teens, and I remember often raging that I still had pimples despite my youthful hormones having returned!

The truth is that many adults can suffer from recurring or one-time acne problems. For my part, each end of the menstrual cycle is more difficult on my skin, bringing me one or two large red pimples or several small whiteheads. With time and research, I ended up finding a few products that help me.

Normaderm double action anti-acne lotion

Vichy's Normaderm line has helped my skin tremendously with breakouts. On the other hand, I must specify that the different products in the range can be aggressive for sensitive skin. It is important not to skimp on hydration.

Pore purifying clay mask

It is well known that clay masks are targeted for oily or acne-prone skin. That being said, this treatment should be used sparingly! No more than once a week, otherwise it dries out the skin.

Glow exfoliating pads

8 effective products to fight against adult acne

I really liked this product from Sephora for my evening routine. The small, moist pucks are coated with glycolic acid (exfoliates the skin) and aloe (soothes the skin). I used them every other night, to avoid damaging my skin too much. When I woke up, my skin was smoother and more luminous.

Foaming cleanser

If you've read any of my beauty articles, you know I'm a big fan of CeraVe products. I use this cleanser daily in the morning (I have another cleanser for the evening) and it's so gentle on the skin, without compromising on the cleaning effectiveness aspect.

It is available in all pharmacies

Targeted anti-blemish solution

As its name suggests, this product is a targeted treatment for blemishes. When I have big red pimples or smaller whiteheads, I topically apply this product and wake up the next day with less swollen, less red pimples.

Anti-acne face cream

I really like this product from Maison Lavande! When my skin looks oilier or my pores become more visible, I apply this treatment at night before going to bed and it helps my skin a lot. As it is a cream, the product is gentle on the skin and provides a small dose of hydration.

Glow Tonic by Pixi

This product is in the range of chemical exfoliants thanks to the use of glycolic acid. Glycolic acid products are normally harsh on the skin, but I am able to use the Glow Tonic daily without damaging my skin's moisture. Since it has exfoliating properties, it helps fight acne!

It is available in pharmacies.

Tea Tree essential oil

For people who prefer natural solutions, Tea Tree essential oil really works miracles as a local product on pimples and redness. We apply in the evening, only on the affected area and the next day, the pimple is less red and swollen.

You can find this product in pharmacies or in natural markets, such as Marché Avril.
