Your lips can say a lot about your health! No matter how well you take care of it, that doesn't prevent the little annoyances that arise regardless of your beauty routine. The external environment can have serious consequences on the skin, especially on the lips.
There are two distinct types of skin on our lips: the outer part you put lipstick on is called the vermilion, and the inner, moist part is called the mucosa. Vermilion lacks the sweat or sebaceous glands found on the rest of our skin, which is why it dries out and cracks more often than the rest of your body.
If you find that your lips seem abnormal (for example, if they are constantly dry and cracked, or even pale or white), there could be an underlying problem looming.
“While not all symptoms are cause for concern, some serious illnesses show signs through the lips,” warns American dermatologist Annie Gonzalez in Bustle magazine. “It is advisable to keep an eye on your lips to see if they change color, texture or size. If anything seems unusual to you, make an appointment with your dermatologist for medical advice. »
If you find that your body is not healing itself after a few days, it is best to let your doctor know about your symptoms.
